This week we will have our first cooking lab - fruit kebobs with chocolate drizzle!
This week we will be focusing on a few important topics before starting cooking labs next week:
**Reminder to all students that a parent/guardian signed welcome letter needs to be returned to Mrs. Luthin before you can participate in a cooking lab. Extra copies are available in the foods room or see the previous blog post for a pdf version to print.
This week students will spend time navigating the enhanced safety and sanitation procedures that are an important part of our classroom learning this year. We will also go through the course outline and students will be given a welcome letter to share with their parent/guardian. This letter must be signed and returned in order for students to participate in upcoming cooking labs.
This is our last week of quarter 1 exploratory classes! Students currently in Food Studies will be moving to Tech Ed classes with Mr. Smith beginning Tuesday, November 17.
Our final lab this week is oven fries and smoothies. Students will be working on knife skills by preparing their own potatoes. During our final class, students will complete a course reflection and work on kitchen cleaning/organizing/sanitizing.
I hope you all had a great time in Food Studies and I look forward to working with you again in grade 7!
This is our 2nd last week for quarter 1 exploratory classes. On Monday we reviewed the locations for common kitchen tools and went over classroom duties. Our lab this week is chocolate fiddles, a delicious chocolate no-bake cookie.
This week we reviewed measuring tools and techniques, using these skills we made mummy pumpkin tarts.
Friday is a pro-d day so we only have 2 classes this week. We are continuing with our breakfast theme and making French toast. Remember that all of the recipes are on the website under Food Studies Recipes.
There is no school Friday, so enjoy another long weekend and I will see you all next week!
This is another short week, with no school on Monday for Thanksgiving. This week we are making grilled cheese...with a twist! Students have the option to add mustard, ham and/or tomatoes. This will be the first time we're using the stoves at school so we went over stove safety during the cooking demonstration.
This week students spent more time in the kitchens getting to know the class routines. Students made microwave granola. There is no class on Friday so we did not have a Food Studies lesson.
Have a great long weekend!
