This week we had our chocolate lesson/tasting and will be making granola parfaits using the granola recipe from grade 6.
This week grade 7s have an extra block of Food Studies so we will be focusing on a few important topics before our first cooking lab on Thursday:
**Reminder to all students that a parent/guardian signed welcome letter needs to be returned to Mrs. Luthin before you can participate in a cooking lab. Extra copies are available in the foods room or see the previous blog post for a pdf version to print.
This week students will spend time navigating the enhanced safety and sanitation procedures that are an important part of our classroom learning this year. We will also go through the course outline and students will be given a welcome letter to share with their parent/guardian. This letter must be signed and returned in order for students to participate in upcoming cooking labs.
This is our last week of quarter 1 exploratory classes! Students currently in Food Studies will be moving to Tech Ed classes with Mr. Smith beginning Tuesday, November 17.
Our final lab this week is baked bean burritos. Students will be working on knife skills by preparing their own veggies. During our final class students will work on kitchen cleaning/organizing/sanitizing.
I hope you all had a great time in Food Studies and I look forward to working with you again in grade 8!
This is our 2nd last week for quarter 1 exploratory classes. We have an extra foods class on Wednesday so we are completing 2 cooking labs - pita pizzas and banana bread muffins.
This week we reviewed measuring tools and techniques, using these skills we made monster finger cookies (using a sugar cookie recipe).
Friday is a pro-d day so we only have 2 classes this week. We are learning about the biscuit method and making cheesy corn dogs using a cornmeal biscuit dough! Remember that all of the recipes are on the website under Food Studies Recipes.
There is no school Friday, so enjoy another long weekend and I will see you all next week!
This is another short week, with no school on Monday for Thanksgiving. This is our first week with an extra exploratory class rotation, so students will have two cooking labs this week! We will be making apple oatmeal pancakes, and egg and cheese stackers.
This week we focused on CHOCOLATE! We had a chocolate lesson where students learned about the history of chocolate and had a chocolate tasting of 6 types of chocolate. The lab this week was real hot chocolate with a flavour addition.
Have a great long weekend!
