This is our last week before Winter Break and it's all about holiday baking!
Our first lab this week is jalapeno popper wonton cups, a student favourite as a warm and delicious appetizer that is easy to make for your family. For our holiday baking we're making one of Mrs. Luthin's favourite holiday cookies, soft gingersnap cookies!
This week we focused on dishwashing by completing a dishwashing relay. Our first lab this week is Italian soda, using homemade fruit syrup. We also learned about knife skills in preparation of next week's apple crisp lab.
SAFETY, SANITATION and START-UP
This week we are continuing with a review of safety, sanitation and start-up. We watched Kitchen Safety Showdown, worked on Food Studies Olympics review package and did a kitchen safety review. Our first cooking lab will be next week.
Welcome to a new quarter of exploratory classes at RMS!
This week students will spend time getting to know their classmates and the daily routines in the Food Studies class. We will also begin navigating the enhanced safety and sanitation procedures that are an important part of our classroom learning this year. We will also go through the course outline and students will be given a welcome letter to share with their parent/guardian. This letter must be signed and returned in order for students to participate in upcoming cooking labs.
No school Friday for Pro-D day. For yet another short week together we are baking lemon scones! This is a student favourite and I hope you enjoy it enough to try it at home with your family.
No school Monday for Thanksgiving Day.
For our short week together we will be making oatmeal cookies with a focus on measurement and accuracy.
