This term students are completing two projects - lined drawstring backpack and elastic waist pajama shorts with pockets.
Here are some great sewing videos to help make elastic waist shorts, from drafting the pattern to adding pockets. How to Draft a Pattern: www.youtube.com/watch?v=rX3ic_dxH1o&t=545s How to Sew the Shorts: www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7cODkuwlbs&t=43s How to Add Side Seam Pockets: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MUfB_wgbRc4 This term students are learning at least two needle-based crafts: cross stitch, knitting and/or needle felting. Students are encouraged to take the lead in their learning with help from Mrs. Luthin and Mrs. Nethercote. The internet is a wealth of crafting help, advice, tutorials, patterns, and more. I have created Pinterest boards for each of the needle-based crafts, that students can use as a starting point on their crafting journey.
*Reminder - there is a $15 fee for this enrichment class (fee may increase depending on size and quantity of projects made). Project 1: Mini patchwork pin cushion
I used this pattern as a starting point and altered the overall design to make it user friendly for students. https://vanessachristenson.com/blog/v-and-co-how-to-make-little-string/ Project 2: Pajama shorts I don't have a copy of the pattern but it's a simple one to find tutorials online. See me if you'd like to trace the pattern pieces to make at home. Project 3: Slippers This was a tricky project but so rewarding when finished. https://www.prettyprudent.com/how-to-make-fabric-slippers-with-free-pattern-2/ Students completed a series of beginner sewing projects over 10-weeks. Below are the links to the patterns if you wish to make them at home. Remember that there are so many sewing blogs and video tutorials, so don't be afraid to try something new. Have fun and get creating!

This term students in "Beginners Sewing" will be working on two main projects: hand-sewn felt creature and a cotton carry-all bag.
If you are looking to simplify the patchwork pillow back, removing the zipper and creating an envelope back is super simple! Follow the instructions from this tutorial, using your patchwork pillow front with an envelope back opening.
