Grade 6 classes have one more week of start-up lessons before we begin cooking next week. This week it's all about becoming familiar with the cooking space. Students will complete a unit snoop activity, learning the names and locations of common cooking tools. We will also have a hand wash lesson using GloGerm to show us how germs tend to settle into parts of our hands and the importance of proper hand washing. On Friday there is a dishwashing relay that will highlight how cooking labs run and give students hands on experience washing dishes by hand!
Reminder - students must fill in the welcome letter and have a parent/guardian sign. Failure to do so will result in alternate food items not being available for students with allergies and/or dietary restrictions. See the first post of the quarter for a copy of the letter. Welcome to Quarter 1 Food Studies Exploratory! This week we will be discussing classroom routines and spending some time getting to know each other. Next week students will be learning about safety and sanitation in preparation of the upcoming cooking labs. Attached is a copy of the course outline and the welcome letter, this letter is handed out to all grade 6 students and needs to be signed and returned before the first cooking lab. Reminder to bring either a duotang or folder to be left in the class, this will be returned at the end of the quarter with all of the work we have done over 10-weeks.
