This week it's all about the principles of food safety! Students will learn about cross-contamination and how to safely prepare chicken dishes. The lab this week is BBQ chicken quesadillas, using pre-cooked chicken to reduce the risk of foodborne illness. Students will prepare this dish as a whole kitchen with each student cooking their own quesadilla.
With another short week students will have a demo class followed by a cooking lab. This week we're making grilled cheese with a twist! Students will each make their own sandwich with the option to add ham, tomato and/or mustard. Sandwiches will be served with apple slices. The focus for this lab is on stove and knife safety.
No school Friday, Pro-D day. No school Monday - Thanksgiving Day
This week we have another lab focusing on stovetop safety in addition to measuring practice and recipe reading. Students are making the always popular chocolate fiddles, aka haystack cookies! These are a no-bake cookie that is prepared using the stovetop and dropping the cookie dough onto a cookie sheet to cool. It's a very short week for students: - No school Monday, recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day - Early dismissal Wednesday and Thursday - RMS community BBQ, Wednesday 5-6:30pm (students and their families welcome) - No school Friday, district wide Implementation day This week students have only ONE foods class! We will be making marshmallow treats as a fun lab to continue learning important lab routines. |
