It is finally time for our first cooking lab. Students will participate in a chocolate lesson/tasting to learn a bit about the history of cocoa and how it has become the common ingredient we know today. Working in pairs, students will have the choice of making hot chocolate or frozen hot chocolate. There will also be an herb and spice lesson where students will learn about and try to identify 24 different herbs and spices.
Reminder - any student with allergies and/or dietary restrictions must fill in the welcome letter and have a parent/guardian sign. Failure to do so will result in alternate food items not being available. See the first post of the quarter for a copy of the letter. This week it's all about kitchen safety and reviewing important concepts in advance of our first cooking lab next week. Reminder to bring a duotang from home to keep your class work organized.
Welcome to Quarter 1 Food Studies Exploratory! This week we will be discussing classroom routines and spending some time getting to know each other. Next week students will be learning about safety and sanitation in preparation of the upcoming cooking labs. Attached is a copy of the course outline and the welcome letter, this letter is handed out to new students and those with allergies and/or dietary restrictions I need to be aware of. Reminder to bring either a duotang or folder to be left in the class, this will be returned at the end of the quarter with all of the work we have done over 10-weeks.
