No School Friday - Truth and Reconciliation Day
The time has finally arrived....our first cooking lab! To focus on lab safety and routines we are starting with a simple marshmallow treats recipe. Students will be cooking in groups of 2-3, with each kitchen working together on clean-up.
SAFETY, SANITATION and START-UP
This week we started learning about kitchen safety and sanitation. We will work through a 2-class presentation to touch on important topics to prepare us for our first cooking lab in two weeks. We will also be doing a unit snoop activity to learn the names of commonly used kitchen tools and to learn their locations in the classroom. Reminder that signed welcome letters are due back this week. See me if you need a new copy (it is printed on blue paper and can be found here on last week's blog post). Welcome to a new year of exploratory classes at RMS! This week students will spend time getting to know their classmates and the daily routines in the Food Studies class. We will also begin navigating the enhanced safety and sanitation procedures that are an important part of our classroom learning this year. We will also go through the course outline and students will be given a welcome letter to share with their parent/guardian. This letter must be signed and returned in order for students to participate in upcoming cooking labs.
